New Year New Bridge

New year, new format, new Managing Editors: same quality journal. Over the last seven years The Strategy Bridge has grown, it has moved, and matured. Begun as a passion project on strategy by a handful of optimistic young professionals, today The Strategy Bridge hosts a Journal with over 2,000 articles and reviews, our New Model Mentoring gatherings continue, and The Strategy Bridge Podcast has released thirty episodes. Our Masthead boasts a team of over twenty volunteers who work hard to bring you what you’ve come to expect from The Strategy Bridge: products that are read, respected, and referenced across our community.

While 2020 was a demanding year, your Strategy Bridge Team was up to the task, publishing 162 articles and reviews authored by contributors from across the globe, P.R. Beckman completed a third season of The Strategy Bridge Podcast publishing 8 new episodes, and our New Model Mentoring gatherings hosted by Bill Ault in Carlisle, Marc Schanz in Washington D.C., and Allison Lazarus and Jeremy Gwinn in Boston continued to meet virtually despite the pandemic.

In the New Year you’ll see some changes to our Masthead, in how we solicit and publish articles, and in our submission guidelines––which are your key to publication with our journal. We know that change can be unsettling, but we also know it is necessary.

The Strategy Bridge will continue to accept and publish book reviews on a weekly basis. The #Reviewing series is one of our staples––something we’ve built up over the years and serves our community by shining light on new work, revisiting the classics, and making personal connections to literature, poetry, television, movies, and more. The Strategy Bridge will no longer accept unsolicited submissions––instead we’re pivoting to a quarterly journal topic and will publish articles on a quarterly basis which are written to the prompt and comport to our new submission guidelines.

The Board of Directors is excited to announce that Dr. Heather Pace and Dr. Katherine Voyles are taking the helm of our journal as the Managing Editors and journal team leadership. They are ready for the task at hand and we’re excited about the opportunity that this change presents.

Our team of Senior Editors now includes Jo Brick, Brett Friedman, Marc Milligan, and Bob Mihara. In the new year, we’ll be onboarding a number of new Associate Editors with an eye towards expanding our team, ensuring diversity of thought, and bringing new eyes and new thinking to our ever-growing team.

And with the additions to our new team, we must also farewell some phenomenal teammates. Steven Foster, our first and longest serving Senior Editor will depart The Strategy Bridge after over five years of service; Olivia Garard, one of our most prolific contributing editors, is moving on to pursue full time graduate studies; and Dr. John DeRosa is moving on to focus on raising a growing family and new career opportunities.

But The Strategy Bridge is more than a journal and an editorial team. We have to tip our hat to the teams that keep the journal in front of you, that lead our communications, that support community outreach, and that help us better understand how you reach us, how you read us, and what we can do to better serve you.

Our Communications Team is led by the indomitable Dan Clark, who for years has made sure that we’re not tweeting into the void, but rather following a disciplined communications strategy that has ensured our growth and reinforced our credibility. Chris Handy is the man behind the curtain who makes sure that the tweets go out on time, that Facebook and LinkedIn are synchronized, and that our message and voice are congruent with our purpose.

Following every publication, every podcast, and every series our Assessments Team crunches the numbers and lets us know where we stand. They’re half Commander's Action Group, half Red Team, and a bit like that IG visit that you always dread but that usually makes you better. Katherine Bratterton and Kimberly Hale are two of the most talented observer-evaluators out there, and we’re glad to have them on our team.

We’re humbled by your support and look forward to another amazing year with you. Please consider supporting The Strategy Bridge, your tax-deductible donation keeps our platform viable and keeps our journal, podcast, and in-person meetings alive. We’ve got a big year planned and hope to grow our outreach to include new podcast opportunities, more interaction with our editors, and more of what we’ve always done––pursuing the  development of people in strategy, national security, and military affairs.

Thank you for being part of our community.
